World Workshop on Oral Medicine X
Recife, Brazil, July 24 & 25, 2028
Initial Announcement
Dear Oral Medicine colleagues,
In the mid-1980s, Professor Sir David Mason (UK) and Dr Dean Millard (USA) conceived the idea of convening oral medicine experts from around the world to examine the status and future directions of the discipline. The first three World Workshops on Oral Medicine (WWOM) were held at the American Dental Association headquarters in Chicago in 1988, 1993, and 1998. Subsequent Workshops took place in Puerto Rico (2006), London (2010), Orlando (2014), Gothenburg (2018), Memphis (2022), and Las Vegas (2025).
At each Workshop, approximately 50–100 international experts in oral medicine and related fields participated in focused working sections to systematically review the literature and examine educational, research, and clinical practice standards. The proceedings of these Workshops have been published in renowned journals and are widely cited, reflecting their enduring impact on the field.
It is with pleasure to announce that the planning for the Tenth World Workshop on Oral Medicine (WWOM X) is progressing well. These plans provide a strong foundation for the continued work leading up to the WWOM X, to be held in Recife, Brazil, in July 24 & 25, 2028 in conjunction with Brazilian Society of Stomatology and Oral Pathology (SOBEP). Recruitment of Section Heads is well under way. Submission of applications for Reviewers and Assistant Reviewers will start on April 15, 2026 and continue until June 15, 2026.
The WWOM X will build upon the nine previous Workshops. Each successive Workshop has built upon its predecessors, allowing us to refine our processes, strengthen our methodological framework, and enhance the clarity and transparency of WWOM governance. It is essential that oral medicine colleagues worldwide remain informed and have opportunities to provide feedback and guidance. Accordingly, we outline our mission and vision statements, objectives, and organizational structure on the WWOM website https://wworalmed.org.
Thank you for your continued interest and support. We very much look forward to the next steps as we move toward 2028.
Sincerely,
WWOM Steering Committee (alphabetic listing)
